As seven players have qualified for the WTA Finals, it’s now time to address the state of play as the WTA season edges towards its conclusion.

Heading into the Asian swing, two players had qualified for the WTA Finals with world number one Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka qualifying for the season-ending finale in Saudi Arabia.

Swiatek won five titles this season including a fourth Roland Garros crown in Paris while Sabalenka won two Grand Slams this season in an incredible season.

Both players will look to end the year as world number one in Saudi Arabia with Sabalenka in the semi-finals of Wuhan as well.

The third player to qualify was Barbora Krejcikova as the Czech Republican had won Wimbledon, all Krejcikova needed to do was finish in the world’s top 20 in order to qualify due to the WTA’s new rules.

Now we know four of the remaining five spots that are left as our WTA Finals field is almost set with Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula and Jasmine Paolini all qualifying.

Gauff hasn’t had the most impressive season at Grand Slam level but the American has still managed to win two titles which included her recent triumph in Beijing.

Rybakina had an incredible start to the season winning Abu Dhabi, Brisbane and Stuttgart as well as reaching the final in Miami but has tailed off since then.

Pegula reached the US Open final and has been in exceptional form in the second half of the season which included titles in Berlin and Canada.

Finally Paolini has reached two Grand Slam finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon as she has cemented herself as a top ten player.

The final spot at the WTA Finals will most likely be between Qinwen Zheng or Emma Navarro and it’s the Olympic gold medallist who is in pole position at the moment.

Zheng is 282 points ahead of Navarro but could further extend her lead as she is in the semi-finals of Wuhan.

The WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia take place on the 2nd-9th of November.
