Holger Rune is reuniting with childhood coach Lars Christensen as he looks to improve his form.
It’s been a rough season for the Dane as he has failed to show up in the big tournaments with the 21 year-old currently ranked at 14 in the world.
Rune hasn’t won a title this year and hasn’t made a Grand Slam quarter-final this season as he has experience a number of coaching changes.
Although Rune thought he turned a corner by making the Cincinnati semi-finals, the Dane followed that up with a first round defeat to Brandon Nakashima at the US Open.
Now Rune will hope his fortunes change as he goes back to basics by appointing childhood coach Lars Christensen.
Speaking about the change Rune admitted he is happy to go back to basics and pointed to one area of his game in particular that Christensen can help with, “I am happy to work with Lars again,” Rune was quoted by tennisuptodate.com as saying.
“We have known each other for many years and have developed our very own tennis language together. During the past month, I have trained a few times with Lars when I have been in Denmark, and it has, among other things, had a really good effect on my serve.”
Rune will hope the impact will be immediate when he competes in Basel next week alongside Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime.
