Cameron Norrie has admitted he missed playing regular competitive tennis despite his opening round defeat to Miomir Kecmanovic in Stockholm.

The former Wimbledon semi-finalist returned to action on Tuesday in the ATP tour as he returned to the main circuit for the first time for three months.

Norrie’s last match was in Bastad where he lost in the second round to Rafael Nadal and has missed the Olympics and the US Open since then.

Speaking of the injury Norrie said it was one shot before the Olympics that saw him miss months of action, “It was obviously frustrating at the beginning to miss all those big tournaments, that was tough. But it was a good chance to refresh the body,” Norrie told the ATP website a couple of days ago.

“It was just one shot a few days before the Olympics. I had to stop and then I did scans and it wasn’t looking good. I trained a little bit more, trying to get myself ready for the US Open, but it wasn’t to be. It was a tough one.”

Tough indeed as was the Brit’s opening round loss as he lost 6-4 6-4 to Miomir Kecmanovic in Stockholm.

Norrie hit too many unforced errors and lacked clinical decision making as he lost in straight sets to the Serb.

However the Brit still missed the emotions of playing tennis as he admits he is ready to battle ahead of the 2025 season, “After six, seven years on the Tour, I didn’t really miss one week through injury. So, I definitely realised that was amazing. To enjoy time with my girlfriend and be a normal person for a little bit was something I haven’t done for a very long time, maybe since college,” Norrie explained to the ATP website.

“That was nice, for a bit, but then I realised I missed tennis a lot, I missed competing, the emotions of winning or losing. It’s a very steady life [when not competing]. I enjoyed it, but I feel ready to compete, ready to battle on the court.”

Norrie will now continue his bid for improvement in Vienna next week.
