Emma Raducanu beats Yuan Yue on her seventh match point to reach the quarter final in Seoul

rea Emma Raducanu beat number 8 seed Yuan Yue 6-4 6-3 to secure her spot in her fifth quarter final of the 2024 season.

After holding serve at deuce Raducanu earned the first break to take a 2-1 lead. 

Yuan broke straight back  and saved break points to hold serve in the fifth game for 3-2 and in the seventh game for 4-3. 

Raducanu broke serve with a backhand winner. The 2021 US Open champion held serve to close out the first set 6-4. 

Raducanu broke Yuan in the first game of the second set. She held serve before breaking again to open up a 3-0 lead. Yuan pulled one break back, but Raducanu held serve at deuce to get to 4-2 before breaking serve again for 5-2, earning the chance to serve for the match. 

Raducanu did not convert four match match points before saving two break points. 

Yuan saved the fifth match point with a winner in the penultimate game. Raducanu saved a break point with an ace. 

Yuan earned a break point on a seventh deuce after a double fault from Raducanu. The Chinese player broke serve with a forehand winner.  

Raducanu broke serve on her seventh match point in Yuan’s next service game to close out the win. 

“I think my key to success is to try to let go of any frustration that happened. Closing out the match I had a lot of match points and could not convert. It was about just about staying focused and breaking in that last game ”, said Raducanu. 

Raducanu set up a match against Daria Kasatkina, who beat Hailey Bapiste 6-4 6-2. Kasatkina hit a sliced winner in the final game of the match. After a trade of breaks in the first two games, Kasatkina broke twice in the third and seventh games to open up a 5-2 lead. Baptiste pulled one of the breaks back in the eighth game for 4-5. Kasatkina served out the first set at 30. Kasatkina opened up a 3-0 lead in the second set. Baptiste pulled one of the two breaks back to close the gap for 3-4. Kasatkina converted her third break point in the seventh game to win the second set 6-2. 

Kasatkina leads 2-0 in her head-to-head matches against Raducanu. Beatriz Haddad Maia, who reached the final in Seoul in 2017, beat Alja Tomljanovic 6-3 6-4. Haddad Maia converted her second break point in the fourth game to win the first set 6-3. The Brazilian player broke twice in the third and fifth game to take a 5-1 lead. Tomljanovic pulled one of the two break points back in the eighth game for 4-5. Haddad Maia served out the win at 15.
