Stefanos Tsitsipas is aiming to start his interview process for a new coach ahead of the US Open after suffering another early exit in Cincinnati.
Tsitsipas lost in the second round in a three set defeat to Jack Draper in Ohio, losing 3-6 6-4 7-5.
The world number 11 had the match in his control but ultimately was not good enough in the big moments.
It’s been a rough last couple of weeks for Tsitsipas who missed out on a medal match at the Olympics before losing in the second round in Montreal to Kei Nishikori.
That loss was the final straw for Tsitsipas’ father as his coach as they parted ways with Tsitsipas having some harsh words in the process.
Speaking in a recent interview Tsitsipas confirmed that the decision was his and was not influenced by his girlfriend Paula Badosa, “This was entirely my decision, not influenced by anyone else,” Tsitsipas was quoted by tennisuptodate as saying.
“It was a difficult one to make, and I didn’t actually advise with her, which I guess would have been a normal thing to do when you’re in a relationship. I felt like it was something I had to maybe think throughout myself, and get it processed in my own mind and on my own terms.
“Paula is a great source of support. I’ve always spoken greatly of her because she’s been there in my toughest moments and she always was compassionate. She was always a shoulder to lean on when moments like this occur.”
Now after confirming his own decision to start a new collaboration, Tsitsipas was joined by his Davis Cup captain Dimitris Chatzinikolaou in Cincinnati as part of a temporary arrangement.
However that partnership has ended and now Tsitsipas plans to begin the interview process for a new coach ahead of the US Open, “I’m not quite sure…I will be trying to make an interview with different coaches,” Tsitsipas was quoted by tennis infinity as saying.
“I will set up an interview with a few of them. I am not entirely sure of how I am going to proceed in terms of which coach I will be picking. So that is something that is uncertain for now.
“But I am glad Dimitri stepped in to help me out. I have known him my entire life since I was a little baby.“
Tsitsipas will compete at the US Open which starts on the 26th of August.
