Shuai Zhang’s 22nd consecutive defeat on the WTA tour has seen her break an unwanted WTA record.
The 35 year-old lost to the in-form Diana Schnaider 6-1 6-4 in her first round match at Cincinnati.
It means Zhang has lost a 22nd consecutive match on the tour which is a new record in tennis.
The Chinese star now has the longest losing streak in the open era with her last win coming in February 2023.
Injuries as well as missing home during a tough period for Zhang have certainly played its part as she has never recovered since reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open last year.
Zhang is now 689th in the world after her slump of form and has only won two sets this season.
The previous record was held by ATP player Vince Spadea who lost 21 matches from October 1999 to June 2000.
Now Zhang aims to turn her fortunes around when she plays the US Open which starts on the 26th of August.
