Novak Djokovic overcame a string of frustrating events to defeat Lorenzo Musetti 6-4 6-2 and set up a gold medal match with Carlos Alcaraz at the Olympics.
The Serb will have the opportunity to claim his first ever gold medal on Sunday as he defeated Musetti in straight sets.
Djokovic passed big doubts over his knee in the early stages as he was producing efficient service holds.
The world number two was equally as efficient on return as he created four break points in the fourth game.
However, Musetti produced some clutch shots to fend off the Djokovic pressure as he continued to gain confidence in the opening set.
As the set went on, the more frustrated Djokovic was but the Serb was persistent in his play on return and that persistence paid off when he broke Musetti in the tenth game to claim the opening set.
Although Djokovic had one set in the bag, that didn’t stop the Serb from voicing his frustrations and first it was the umpire who was in the line of fire as Djokovic was angry with a time violation.
That angry response wasn’t the best solution for Djokovic as he then received a code violation for the language used in his rant.
After being broken in his opening two service games, Djokovic then turned to his team in rage as he wanted his team to make more eye contact with Djokovic.
Luckily for the 24-time Grand Slam champion, Musetti was not aggressive or efficient on serve as the world number 16 failed to hold serve in the second.
Djokovic raced to five consecutive games and reached his second final of the season.
Now Djokovic will aim for a first gold medal as he takes on Carlos Alcaraz in a rematch from the Wimbledon final that the Spaniard won very convincingly.
