Gael Monfils produced a stunning victory over Carlos Alcaraz to reach the third round in Cincinnati.
Heading into day two of their clash Alcaraz won the first set but was trailing 3-1 in the second set tiebreak.
However the Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion was erratic and error-prone as he had a frustrating day in the office.
A racket smash as well as several unforced errors led to Alcaraz facing multiple break points.
The returning pressure from Monfils was too much as the Frenchman secured a massive 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4 win over the world number three.
Next up for Monfils will be Holger Rune later on Friday for a place in the quarter-finals.
In other results Alexander Zverev defeated Pablo Carreno Busta while Andrey Rublev defeated Brandon Nakashima to set up a Montreal rematch with world number one Jannik Sinner.
Rublev won their meeting in Canada last week and will aim to continue his good form by beating Sinner for a second consecutive week.
There was also a convincing win for Felix Auger-Aliassime over Casper Ruud and the Canadian will now play Jack Draper for a place in the quarter-finals.
