World number one Iga Swiatek celebrated her 23rd birthday with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Marie Bouzkova.
The defending champion is into the last 16 after a brilliant display over Bouzkova, who was helpless for most of the contest.
Next for Swiatek is Anastasia Potapova or Xinyu Wang in the fourth round on Sunday.
The Pole had a point to prove after her Roland Garros thriller against Naomi Osaka and the three-time Champion got to work straight away.
Despite Bouzkova’s powerful serving, Swiatek dictated play from the baseline moving the Czech Republican from side to side.
The Pole ended Bouzkova’s early pattern of power with some clinical shot-making on return as Swiatek broke for a 2-1 lead.
Swiatek continued to produce devastating forehands, forcing errors from Bouzkova as the world number one secured a double break advantage for a 5-2 lead.
However some errors creeped into Swiatek’s game as the world number one became complacent again, similar to the Osaka match.
This allowed Bouzkova to gain one of the breaks back as she restored hope in the match.
On the second time around, Swiatek did manage to close out the opening set with some consistent and clinical serving.
In the second set Swiatek was dominant and at her unplayable best as Bouzkova couldn’t live with the Pole’s forehands.
After opening up a 4-0 lead, Swiatek threatened to hand Bouzkova a bagel but was denied by the Czech Republican who earned a couple of games as a consolation prize for her resilience.
In the end it didn’t count for much as Swiatek wrapped up victory and a place in the last 16.
Next for Swiatek is Anastasia Potapova or Xinyu Wang in the last 16.
