Defending champion Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, this year’s Indian Wells finalist Maria Sakkari and Daria Kasatkina are the top four seeds at the Credit One Charleston Open, the only tournament played on green clay on the WTA Tour.
Last year’s Charleston Open semifinalist Pegula leads the top half of the draw along with Kasatkina, Miami semifinalist Ekaterina Alexandrova, and former Charleston champion Madison Keys.
Pegula will face will face the winner of the first round match between Amanda Anisimova and Alize Cornet.
Alexandrova will face the winner of the first round match between this week’s Miami doubles finalist Sofia Kenin and Taylor Townsend. Alexandrova beat world number 1 Iga Swiatek and Pegula in Miami.
Charleston native Emma Navarro will face either Aranxta Rus or a qualifier in the first round. Navarro will play in front of her home fans as world number 20 and number 10 seed.
Wild card Caroline Wozniaki will take on a qualifier or a lucky loser in the opening round. The Danish player won the Charleston title in 2011 and reached the final in 2019. Wozniacki could face a re-match against Anhelina Kalinina, who saved match points to beat the former number 1 player in the second round. The other players who received wild cards are Shelby Rogers and Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Victoria Azarenka, who lost the semifinal match against Elena Rybakina in Miami, has been drawn in the top half of the draw.
Defending champion Ons Jabeur tops the bottom half of the draw. The 2022 Wimbledon and US Open champion will face a tough opening match against either this week’s Miami champion Danielle Collins or Paula Badosa. The bottom half also features Maria Sakkari, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Elina Svitolina and 2021 champion Veronika Kudemertova.
