Jannik Sinner cruised past Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3 6-4 in 74 minutes to reach the fourth round at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells and to extend his winning streak to 17 consecutive matches.
Sinner saved all three break points he faced and converted two of his four break points.
Sinner is still undefeated in his 14 matches in 2024 and won two consecutive titles at the Australian Open and Rotterdam.
Sinner fended off a break point in the third game before breaking serve in the fourth game. The Davis Cup champion served out the first set at love in the ninth game.
Sinner broke serve with a passing shot in the fifth game after three deuces to take a 3-2 lead. The Italian star earned a double-break chance in the seventh game but Struff saved it to hold serve at deuce. Struff earned two break-back points in the eighth game but Sinner saved them before sealing the win on his first match point in the 10th game.
The world number 3 will face either Ben Shelton or Francisco Cerundolo for a place in the quarter finals.
“I tried to take some confidence and obviously tried to serve very well under pressure, which I did very well today”, said Sinner.
This year’s Acapulco champion Alex De Minaur beat Alexander Bublik 7-5 6-0. Bublik earned the first break in the third game to take a 2-1 lead. De Minaur broke straight back to draw level to 2-2. The Australian player converted his third break point in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead, but Bublik broke straight back on his sixth opportunity to draw level to 5-5. De Minaur sealed the first set with his third break at 15 in the 12th game. De Minaur raced out to a 4-0 lead with two breaks of serve and closed out the match with another break on his third match point in the sixth game.
The Australian player will face either Alexander Zverev or Tallon Griekspoor.
