This year’s Australian Open semifinalist Dayana Yastremska edged past Erika Andreeva 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-3 to reach the second round at the Upper Austria Ladies Open.
Yastremska has improved to 11-2 this year and has a perfect 5-0 record in deciding set. Yastremska set up a second round match against Donna Vekic. The Ukrainian player holds a 3-2 lead in their five head-to-head matches.
Andreeva earned an early break in the first game of the opening set. Yastremaska broke straight back in the second game to draw level to 1-1. Andreeva saved two break points in the eighth game to hold serve after three deuces. Yastremska opened up a 4-0 lead with two mini-breaks. Andreeva pulled one of the two mini-breaks back for 2-4. Both players traded mini-breaks on the seventh and eighth points. Yastremska earned her fourth mini-break to win the tie-break 7-4.
Yastremska opened up a 2-0 lead with an early break in the first game. Andreeva won four consecutive games with two breaks of serve to open up a 4-2 lead. Yastremska pulled back on serve in the seventh game for 3-4. Andreeva earned her third break in the eighth game to win the second set 6-3. Andreeva broke serve in the third game to take a 2-1 lead, but Yastremska reeled off five consecutive games to seal the third set 6-3. Yastremska beat Andreeva 6-3 6-4 in the qualifying round at Wimbledon.
Anastasia Potapova beat Italian qualifier Sara Errani 6-3 6-4.
Jodie Burrage beat lucky loser Jaqueline Cristian 6-3 7-6 (7-5) to reach the first WTA 500 quarter final of her career.
