Jelena Ostapenko beat Daria Kasatkina 6-3 6-2 in Adelaide final to claim the seventh title of her career. The Latvian won the fourth title on hard-court and the first since 2022 Dubai.
Ostapenko will return to the top 10 for the first time in over five years. The Latvian player reached the quarter finals in Brisbane in her first quarter final and won the doubles title with Lyudmila Kichenok.
Ostapenko broke Kasatkina five times. The Latvian player broke serve in the second game to take a 2-0 lead. Ostapenko broke straight back to draw level to 2-2. Ostapenko won three consecutive games with a break to open up a 5-2 lead and closed out the first set with a drop shot winner.
Ostapenko went up a double break in the first and fifth games to race out to a 4-1 lead. Kasatkina pulled one break back in the sixth game for 2-4. Ostapenko broke for the third time in the sixth game and sealed the win on her fourth match point after 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Ostapenko will face Kimberly Birrell in the first round at the Australian Open on Tuesday.
Taylor Townsend and Beatriz Haddad Maia beat Beatriz Haddad Maia and Kristina Mladenovic 7-5 6-3 in the doubles final. Townsend has won three Adelaide doubles titles in the past two years after winning with Asia Muhammad in Adelaide 1 and Luisa Stefani in Adelaide 2 in 2023.
Ostapenko beat Sorana Cristea, Caroline Cristea, Marta Kostyuk, Ekaterina Alexandrova en route to the final earlier this year.
Ostapenko leads 6-2 in her eight head-to-head matches against Kasatkina.
