World number 2 Carlos Alcaraz has been selected by his fellow players as the winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes Fair Play, professionalism and integrity on and off the court.
Alcaraz becomes the fourth Spanish player to receive this ATP Award joining José Higueras (1983), Alex Corretja (1996 and 1998) and Rafael Nadal (2010, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021).
Alcaraz has won his third player-voted ATP Award after receiving Newcomer of the Year in 2020 and Most Improved in 2022.
The 20-year-old Spanish star won the biggest title of his career at Wimbledon beating Novak Djokovic in a five-set epic match. He won two Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Madrid and three ATP 500 trophies in Buenos Aires, Barcelona and London Queen’s.
Alcaraz has become the third Spanish player to win the Wimbledon title after Manolo Santana (1966) and Rafael Nadal (2008 and 2010).
Alcaraz won his third Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells, breaking Danil Medvedev’s 19-match winning streak, and becoming the first player to win the tournament without dropping a set since Roger Federer in 2017. During the European clay season Alcaraz beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final in Barcelona defending his title without dropping a set. The Spaniard won his tenth career title at the Madrid Mutua Open, defeating German lucky loser Jan Lennard Struff.
Alcaraz beat Alex De Minaur in the Queen’s final claiming his first title on grass in his third tournament over this surface. At Wimbledon Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 in an epic five-set final becoming the second player after Andy Murray to beat Djokovic in a Wimbledon final and the fifth player in the Open Era to win multiple major titles before turning 21.
Grigor Dimitrov, Hubert Hurkacz and Jannik Sinner were also nominated in the Sportsmanship Award category.
