Ugo Humbert beat Alexander Schevchenko 6-3 6-3 to win the fourth title in his career at ATP Tour level at the Moselle Open in his home town Metz.
Humbert will finish the season at a career-high world number 20 in the ATP Rankings and as the year-end French number 1 player for the first time.
Humbert earned his first break in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead and held his next service games to close it out on his first set point.
Schevchenko saved two break points in the fifth game of the second set. Humbert earned a break in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. The Frenchman broke serve on his second match point.
Humbert won his previous titles in Antwerp and Auckland in 2020 and Halle in 2021.
Schevchenko will make his debut in the top 50 after reaching his first ATP Final. “It was my dream when I was young to win this tournament. It’s just amazing. I have a lot of feelings now. I can’t describe it. It’s so incredible to win here in my hometown. To finish strong like this, it’s just an amazing. I have a lot of feelings now.
