We’ve seen plenty of young players making a name for themselves on the ATP Tour in recent months, none more so than Ben Shelton.
The American has caught the eye with plenty of strong performances in recent months, which means that he’s one of the form players heading towards the final few months of the season.
Shelton only turned professional in 2022, but has wasted no time in making his mark against some big names on the ATP Tour. He won his first ATP Tour title in late October this year in Tokyo, where he beat the likes of Jordan Thompson, and Tommy Paul, before beating Aslan Karatsev in the final to claim glory. It’s not just in that tournament where he’s impressed though, with Shelton beating Jannik Sinner in that same month in a clash in Shanghai.
Sinner is regarded as one of the players to challenge Carlos Alcaraz for the world number one spot in future years, and with Shelton seeing off the challenge of the Italian, it speaks volumes about his talent. Shelton has shown a great amount of maturity against some strong opponents, and given his strengths with his forehand, it seems only a matter of time before he wins more ATP Tour titles moving forwards.
USA tennis supporters in particular will have been keen to see a player step up and fill the void left by Josh Isner, who recently retired from professional tennis after a lengthy career at the top. Shelton looks as though he could be the player to carry the flag for American tennis, although you’d imagine that the likes of Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe will be challenging Shelton for the highest-ranked American player on the ATP Tour.
Having previously reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 Australian Open, Shelton could be in with an outside chance of challenging for the 2024 tournament. It’s been revealed by mybettingsites.co.uk that Shelton is priced at 66/1 on Sky Bet to win the 2024 Australian Open, which could be a tempting bet if you’re a keen bettor. Below, you’ll find the betting odds for the expected frontrunners for this year’s Australian Open.
- Novak Djokovic @ 1/1
- Carlos Alcaraz @ 15/8
- Daniiel Medvedev @ 7/1
- Jannik Sinner @ 16/1
- Rafael Nadal @ 18/1
- Stefanos Tsitsipas @ 22/1
- Holger Rune @ 25/1
- Casper Ruud @ 28/1
- Alexander Zverev @ 33/1
Shelton has beaten some of those players that are likely to be challenging for the Australian Open title next year, so it’s somewhat surprising to see the American being priced as an outsider heading into this tournament.
