The recently formed partnership between Holger Rune and Boris Becker will continue into the new season, according to a statement issued on Friday.

The world No.8 recently appointed Becker to his camp after splitting from Patrick Mouratoglou following his early exit from the US Open. The German is a six-time Grand Slam champion who has previously worked as the coach of Noak Djokovic. Rune is the first player Becker has coached since serving time in a UK prison for hiding £2.5M worth of assets and loans in a bankruptcy fraud case.

“Boris will travel with him to almost everything. We have a final schedule next week,” Rune’s manager and mother Aneke Rune told the Danish news agency Ritzau.

Rune’s season came to an end at the ATP Finals on Thursday evening after losing in three sets to Jannik Sinner. At the season-ending event, he also took a set off Djokovic before losing and received a walkover against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

During what has been a roller-coaster 2023, Rune reached the final of two Masters events in Monte Carlo and Rome. His sole title triumph was at the Bavarian Open in Germany. In the Grand Slams, he reached the quarter-finals at both the French Open and Wimbledon. Rune has won 44 out of 58 matches played on the Tour.

I had a good season. When you finish in the top eight, you can be proud of yourself,” he told reporters in Turin on Thursday.
“I think that I could have done some things better this year – actually, a lot of things. That’s how it is. It’s a learning process. Next year I’m going to try to learn from this year.”

The 20-year-old will conduct his off-season in Monaco until mid-December and it is planned that Becker will be there with him. Then he will travel to London to play a UTS event before returning to his home country. In Denmark he will continue training but with Kenneth Carlson.

Rune’s first tournament of 2024 is scheduled to be the Brisbane International.
