Jannik Sinner overcame Daniel Elahi Galan 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 6-3 after 2 hours and 36 minutes to reach the quarter final at Wimbledon for the second consecutive year.
Sinner did not convert five break points in the first set before claiming the tie-break 7-4 with two mini-breaks. Galan earned an early break in the first game of the second set. Sinner did not convert four break-back points in the second game and four more chances in the fourth game, but he broke back on his 15th chance in the eighth game.
Sinner broke for the second time in the tenth game to win the second set 6-4. He broke in the second game of the third set to reel off his seventh consecutive game from 2-4 down in the second set.
Sinner did not convert two match points at 5-2, but he sealed the win on his third chance in the next game.
Sinner set up a quarter final match against Roman Safiulin, who beat Denis Shapovalov 3-6 6-3 6-1 6-3.
“Obviously I am very happy. Today was a very tough day. I was not feeling so great on the court, but still I tried to fight for every ball. Knowing him, he is a very good server and hits the forehand very well. I tried to win the most important points. The clash against Safiulin is a very good challenge. Every player that plays in the quarter finals deserves to be there”, said Sinner.
