Novak Djokovic overcame a limp Carlos Alcaraz 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1 to reach his seventh Roland Garros final.

The Serb defeated the world number one in four sets to reach his seventh Roland Garros final and be on the verge of history.

Alcaraz suffered from cramps for the last two sets as the Spaniard missed out on a second Grand Slam final.

Next Djokovic will play either Casper Ruud or Alexander Zverev in the final.

It was an aggressive start from Djokovic who took the match to the top seed with some brilliant forehand returns.

Alcaraz responded with some great serving as both players produced some entertaining rallies early on.

A flawless start to the match from Djokovic was sealed as the Serb broke for a 3-1 lead in the fourth game.

The world number one stuck with his plan though and the Spaniard forced Djokovic into some physical service games.

However Djokovic survived three break points and two ten minute service games to claim the opening set in 57 minutes.

In the second set, Alcaraz became more confident and aggressive from the baseline with the Spaniard matching Djokovic’s high quality start to the match.

The Serb responded with some stunning athleticism of his own before marvelling at Alcaraz’s court speed after the world number one hit the shot of the tournament.

As each game passed Alcaraz gained belief which translated into the scoreboard as a stunning return game sealed the break for a 5-3 lead.

Djokovic responded like champions do with an immediate break of serve as well as saving three set points to hold for 5-5.

However the Alcaraz’s returning pressure told and in the twelfth game, the Spaniard broke to love to seal the second set 7-5.

That moment of joy soon turned into despair as disaster struck with the Spaniard cramping up the second game.

Alcaraz could barely walk and was forced to forfeit the break in the third game as he needed treatment.

From then on it was all about Djokovic’s clinical nature as he coasted to victory taking advantage of the limited movement of Alcaraz.

After the match Djokovic said he is proud to reach the final in Paris, “It was very exhausting for the two sets, I am incredibly proud to reach another final,” Djokovic was quoted by the BBC as saying.

For Alcaraz and the crowd it’s disappointment that the match wasn’t more competitive as the Spaniard will have to wait for a maiden Roland Garros final.

As for Djokovic, he now has a seventh Roland Garros final to look forward to against Casper Ruud or Alexander Zverev, where he will look for a 23rd Grand Slam title.
