Number 8 seed Veronika Kudemertova edged past Coco Gauff 6-2 3-6 6-1 in 2 hours and 4 minutes to secure her spot in the semifinal of the Qatar Total Energies Open in Doha.
Kudemertova also reached the semifinal in Adelaide 2 last January. She will be aiming to reach her first final since Istanbul last April. She set up semifinal against three-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.
Kudemertova has not a set against Swiakek in their previous two head-to-head matches.
Kudemertova broke twice in the third and seventh games to win the opening set 6-2. Both players traded breaks twice in the second set in the first four games of the second set. Gauff earned her third break to take a 4-2 lead, but Kudemertova pulled back on serve in the seventh game. Gauff sealed the second set with another break in the eighth game.
Kudemertova broke twice in the second and fourth games and converted her first match point with a forehand volley in the seventh game of the third set.
