John Isner Eases Past Altmaier To Reach Dallas Quarterfinals

The 6ft 10 American booked his spot in the Dallas Open last eight after beating his German opponent.

John Isner is into the quarterfinals at the Dallas Open after beating Daniel Altmaier of Germany 6-3, 7-6 in one hour and 17 minutes.

The number five seed served 18 aces and won 91% of his first-serve points in a match that he dominated at times despite a very tight second set between the two players.

“I took care of my serve,” Isner said. ” I really enjoy serving on this court and it helped me out a lot.’
I played a great tiebreaker to win the match so I feel like I am getting stronger and see what I can do tomorrow (Friday)”.

The first set stayed on serve until 3-2 when the American earned the first breakpoint of the match and converted at the first time of asking which was enough for him to serve out the first set.

The second set was more competitive with neither player giving in as both served great to hold their respective service games and the set went into a tiebreaker.

The number five seed got the early lead to make it 3-1 and cruised from there. Winning the breaker by losing just one point and booking his spot in the quarterfinals.

Isner will next play Emilio Gomez of Ecuador who pulled off the upset of the day by beating the number four seed Miomir Kecmanovic 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 in two hours and nine minutes.

Day 4 results

In the other results of the day Adrian Mannarino, the number eight seed, beat the Aussie Jordan Thompson in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 in one hour and 45 minutes.

The number one seed Taylor Fritz in the last match of the day beat fellow American Jack Sock in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 in one hour and 36 minutes to progress.

Quarterfinals day

Friday will be quarterfinals day as JJ Wolf the number six seed will face fellow American and number two seed Frances Tiafoe while Yibing Wu will face Mannarino.
