Andy Murray was left bewildered after he reached the Doha final as he saved five match points against Jiri Lehecka.
Murray is into his first ATP final since Stuttgart in June after edging out Jiri Lehecka 6-0 3-6 7-6(6).
The former world number one has won every match this year in three sets and Murray continued that trend after being control of the opening set.
Lehecka upped his game in the last two sets and was serving for the match to reach his first ATP final.
However Murray saved five match points and edged the final set tiebreak 8-6 to seal his place in the final.
After the match Murray admitted it was one of the most remarkable turnarounds of his career, “I don’t know [how I won],” Murray was left bewildered when speaking to the ATP website.
“That was one of the most amazing turnarounds I’ve had in my career. You obviously had the three match points at 5-4, but also [two] when I was serving at 5-3, and then I don’t know.
“I knew it was his first time serving for a final, so I knew I had to try and keep the pressure on at the end. I know how difficult it is to serve matches like that out, but I’ve no idea how I managed to turn that one round to be honest.”
The win means Murray has won all six of his matches in deciding sets including the three other matches he won this week.
Now Murray will look to win his third Doha title when he takes on Rotterdam champion Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev reached the final by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4 7-6(7) as he defeated the Canadian for a second week in a row.
After his victory Medvedev praised Murray’s performances this week, “It’s unbelievable [what Murray has done this week],” Medvedev told the ATP website.
“As soon as someone arrives at match point, that’s where the match starts. So I have to be at my best from the first to the last point tomorrow to try to beat him.
“He’s a legend. He’s playing better and better, I feel like, not only here but in general. This is amazing to see. He’s fighting. Today was just unbelievable, the way he won, so I’m really happy to face him tomorrow.”
The final will take place at 3pm GMT time with Medvedev leading the head-to-head 2-0.
