Alicia Parks came back from one set down to beat number 4 seed Petra Martic 2-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 to reach her second WTA Tour quarter final at the Open 3ème Sens Métropole in Lyon.
Martic broke twice in the first and third games and sealed the sealed the first set 6-2 on her fifth game.
Parks pulls off a spectacular lob tweener with her back to the court to hold serve for 3-2 in the fifth game of the second set. The US player held serve in a tight service game at deuce at 4-4. Both players traded mini-breaks twice to draw level to 4-4. Parks won the final three points and sealed the tie-break with a high backhand volley. In the third set Parks broke serve in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead and held her next service games to seal the third set 6-2.
Last October Parks beat Maria Sakkari and Karolina Pliskova en route to reaching her first quarter final in Ostrava. She won two WTA 125 titles Andorra la Vella and Angers to make her debut in the top 100 last December. She will face either Danka Kovinic or Anna Bondar.
Camila Osorio beat Jule Niemeier 7-6 (7-5) 7-5. Both players traded breaks in the first two games of the opening set. Niemeier broke for the second time in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. The German player saved three break points to hold serve after five deuces but Osorio broke back at love to draw level to level to 5-5. Osorio earned her third mini-break on the seventh point to seal the tie-break 7-5. Niemeier broke serve in the third game to take a 2-1 lead in the third game of the second set. Osorio broke back in the seventh game for 3-4, but Niemeier broke back in the eighth game. Osorio won the final four games with two breaks to win the second set 7-5.
Czech rising star Linda Noskova beat Mayer Sherif 6-3 6-2 with two breaks in each set.
