Alex De Minaur beats Sebastian Korda in three sets in Paris Bercy to set up a second round match against Danil Medvedev

Alex De Minaur overcame Sebastian Korda 6-4 4-6 6-4 in 2 hours and 42 minutes after a match that finished at 1.45 am local time at the Paris Rolex Masters at the Accorhotel Arena in Paris Bercy. 

De Minaur earned an immediate break in the first game before saving a break point to hold serve at deuce in the second game. Korda fended off a total of four break points in the third and seventh games. De Minaur held on his serve to win the first set 6-4.

Korda broke serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead in the second set. De Minaur pulled the break back immediately in the fifth game before saving four break points in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Both players went on serve until the 10th game when Korda broke serve at love to close out a tight second set 6-4. 

De Minaur fended off four break points to hold serve at deuce with an ace in the second game of the third set. Both players went on serve until the seventh game, when the Australian player converted his third break point. 

The Aussie player had to save a break point before serving out the win at deuce in the 10th game on his first match point. 

De Minaur has improved his seasonal record in his ATP Tour matches to 44 wins to 23 defeats. 

De Minaur set up a second round match against former world number 1 Danil Medvedev, who won the Paris Bercy title in 2020. Medvedev leads 4-0 in his head-to-head matches against De Minaur in the final in Sydney 2018, Winston Salem 2018, in the Round of 16 at Paris Bercy in 2020 and at the ATP Cup in 2022. The Russian player won the second ATP Tour title of the season in Vienna last week beating Denis Shapovalov 4-6 6-3 6-2.
