Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic are the fourth doubles team to claim a Nitto ATP Finals berth. The Croatian players have won five ATP doubles titles this year.
Last May they claimed their fourth Masters 1000 title as a team in Rome before winning another clay title in Geneva. They enyoyed a successful grass season winning two tournaments at Queens and Eastbourne and reaching the final at Wimbledon. They showed their versatility on all surfaces when they they won the Astana Open on indoor hard court. They reached finals in Dubai and Belgrade.
Mektic and Pavic reached the semifinals at last year’s Nitto ATP Finals, losing to Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury, who have secured their qualifying spot for this year’s edition of the year-end tournament. Ram and Salisbury won the US Open doubles title beating Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski and the Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati. The US and British team also reached the semifinals at Wimbledon.
Mektic will make his fourth appearance at the Nitto ATP Finals. He claimed this title in 2020 with Wesley Koolhof.
Pavic will play for the fifth time at this tournament. The other qualified teams are Wesley Koolhof/Neal Skupsky (winners at the Masters 1000 in Montreal, winners at s’Hertogenbosch and finalists at the US Open) and Marcelo Arevalo/Jean Julien Rojer (winners at Roland Garros and semifinalists at the US Open).
