Miomir Kecmanovic cruised past Flavio Cobolli 6-1 6-2 with two breaks in each set in just under an hour to advance to the second round at the Tennis Napoli Cup.
Kecmanovic, who entered this week as the world number 30 in the ATP Ranking, converted four of his five break points and did not face a break point. Kecmanovic won 35 matches this year and reached two ATP 250 semifinals in Munich and Los Cabos. He is aiming to reach his second consecutive ATP Tour quarter final after saving six match points to beat Daniel Evans to advance to the top eight in Tokyo.
Kecmanovic set up a second round match against the winner of the match between Corentin Moutet and Luca Nardi.
Nuno Borges edged past Albert Ramos Vinolas 7-5 7-6 (7-5) setting uo a second round match against Daniel Elahi Galan, who beat Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-4 6-4. Borges is aiming to reach the first quarter final of his career.
Borges earned an early break in the first game to take a 2-0 lead. Ramos Vinolas broke back in the fourth game to draw level to 2-2. Borges broke for the second time in the eleventh game to win the first set 7-5.
Ramos Vinolas dropped his serve in the first game of the second set, but he converted his third break-back point to draw level to 2-2. Borges saved two break points in the eighth to hold serve at deuce for 4-4. Both players went on serve en route to the tie-break. Ramos Vinolas went up a mini-break lead twice, but Borges pulled back on serve each time. Borges earned his third mini-break to seal the win on his first match point.
Pedro Cachin upset Adrian Mannarino 6-1 3-6 6-4. The Argentine has moved up to world number 54 in the ATP Ranking.
Taro Daniel cruised past Pedro Martinez 6-3 6-3.
