Maria Sakkari is the last player in the WTA Finals line-up after the Greek reached the semi-finals in Guadalajara.
The Greek had to win her winners take all clash against Veronika Kudermetova with a place in Texas on the line.
Win it she did as Sakkari held her nerve to defeat the Russian 6-1 5-7 6-4 and book her place in the WTA Finals.
After the match Sakkari praised her heart and grit as she booked her place at the season-ending finale, “Without fire you cannot win these matches,” Sakkari said in her post match interview.
“Without heart, without courage, without just going for it and being brave. You cannot get these opportunities, you cannot win them, you cannot do things like the one today.”
Sakkari joins Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, Caroline Garcia, Aryna Sabalenka and Daria Kasatkina in the WTA Finals.
It will be Sakkari’s second time at the WTA Finals after qualifying for the event last year and reaching the semi-finals.
Before thinking about the WTA Finals, Sakkari still has the tournament in Guadalajara to think about where she will take on Marie Bouzkova in the last four.
The other semi-final will see Victoria Azarenka take on Jessica Pegula with the semi-finals starting from 11pm UK time.
