Felix Auger-Aliassime has won the 2022 Swiss Indoors in Basel after beating Denmark’s Holger Rune 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 40 minutes.

The Montreal native hit 27 winners, served 11 aces, and won 78% of his first serve points en route to his third consecutive title after Florence and Antwerp earlier this month. He has now won 13 matches in a row which is a personal best winning streak for him. Auger-Aliassime is only the third player this year to have won an ATP title without dropping his serve in the entire tournament.

”It’s been an amazing week and a long year with a long stretch of wins and it’s not over,” he said after his latest win. “Hopefully I can keep going but right now feeling all the good emotions that come with winning a tournament”.

The opening set stayed on serve and the number three seed was able to earn the only set breakpoint at 2-1 and converted, which was enough to wrap up the first set.

The second set was a much tighter affair with Rune looking to push it to three sets. At 4-4, he had two chances to break but the Canadian managed to save both with two big serves.

At 5-5, the world number nine found himself at 40-15 against the Rune serve. The Dane was able to save both break points but Auger-Aliassime earned a third chance and took it to break. He went on to serve out the match.

Auger-Aliassime will now head to Paris to try and secure a spot at the ATP finals in Turin. He is now 725 clear of Taylor Fritz in the race to qualify.

In his post-match on-court interview, Auger-Aliassime spoke about the emotions that come with winning a tournament.

”It’s amazing and I usually don’t react that much but I think it was a genuine reaction at the end and with that amount of tension”. He said.,

The Canadian will either face Alexander Bublik or a qualifier in his first match in Paris next week after earning a first-round bye.
