Alexander Zverev will miss the US Open due to another setback with his ankle injury.

It turns out the German will now have ankle surgery despite making late attempts to make the last grand slam of the season.

Zverev was preparing to make his comeback after a variety of practice sessions in Monte-Carlo.

However the US Open have confirmed today that Zverev will miss the US Open as he prepares for ankle surgery.

It’s the second consecutive grand slam that Zverev will miss having missed Wimbledon as well.

The German’s absence is down to a horrific ankle injury suffered during his Roland Garros semi-final against Rafael Nadal.

Zverev will now look to recover in time for the last few months of the season as he will attempt to make a late surge for the ATP Finals.

As a result of Zverev’s withdrawal, Stefan Kozlov now enters the main draw to replace him while Stefanos Tsitsipas will now be a top four seed.

The US Open will take place next Monday with the draw taking place on Thursday.
