Pablo Andujar beat Lorenzo Sonego 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-4) to reach the second round at the Generali Open in Kitzbuhel. Andujar will face world number 205 Filip Misolic.
Andujar broke serve in the fifth game of the opening set to take a 3-2 lead. Sonego broke straight back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Andujar earned his second break in the seventh game and held his next service games to close out the first set 6-4.
Sonego went up a 3-0 lead with a break in the second game. Andujar broke back in the fifth game and held on his serve to draw level to 3-3. Sonego broke serve in the eighth game at deuce and served out the second set to love to win the second set 6-3.
Sonego broke twice at the start of the third set to race out to a 4-0 lead. Andujar pulled one of the two breaks back in the sixth game. The Spanish player broke for the second time, as Sonego made two double faults while he was serving for the match at. 5-4. The Italian player did not convert two break points in the 10th game. Andujar earned two mini-breaks to take a 5-2 lead in the tie-break. Sonego saved the first match point with a forehand for 3-5, but Andujar sealed the win on his second match point with a down the line forehand.
