Serena Williams lands in the top half of the Women’s Singles draw at Wimbledon while Iga Swiatek is looking to extend her dominance over the rest of the field.
The headline news from the Women’s draw is that 23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams returns to singles action, a year after injuring herself against Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
Serena has landed in the top half of the draw but will have to wait until the semi-finals to play world number one Iga Swiatek.
First up for the American is Harmony Tan before a potential second round meeting with Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Should Serena survive those obstacles than a titanic third round clash with last year’s finalist Karolina Pliskova could await.
Pliskova will face fellow Czech Tereza Martincova in her opening round before potentially facing Britain’s Katie Boulter in the second round.
Also in the second quarter of the draw is Paula Badosa with the Spaniard facing American qualifier Louisa Chirico in her opening match.
Badosa could have a demanding task to get to the latter stages though with former champions Petra Kvitova and Simona Halep both in her section of the draw.
Meanwhile world number one Iga Swiatek appears in the top section and she is looking to extend her dominance over the rest of the field at Wimbledon.
Swiatek has won 35 consecutive matches and won six consecutive titles and will look to continue that dominance starting with Croatian qualifier Jana Fett.
Swiatek could face Danka Kovinic and Yulia Putintseva en route to a last 16 showdown with fellow Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova.
Jessica Pegula is her projected quarter-final where the American has a tricky opener against Donna Vekic.
The likes of Garbine Muguruza, Bianca Andreescu and Elena Rybakina are in her half of the draw.
In the bottom half of the draw Ons Jabeur looks to bounce back from an early exit at Roland Garros as she takes on Swedish qualifier Mirjam Bjorklund.
Jabeur has also landed in the same quarter as Madison Keys, Angelique Kerber and Emma Raducanu.
Raducanu, who has had fitness doubts heading into the tournament, has a tricky opener against Alison Van Uytvanck.
Finally in the bottom quarter Maria Sakkari and Anett Kontaveit are scheduled for a quarter-final match.
However with both out of form there could be an opportunity for the likes of Belinda Bencic and Jelena Ostapenko to breakthrough.
