Bianca Andreescu is into the semfinals of the Bad Homburg Open after beating top seed Daria Kasatkina in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 22 minutes.
The Toronto native served three aces and hit 28 winners in a match that seemed pretty one sided under hot and humid conditions on the Center Court.
“I am super grateful that I was able to fight, I managed well and I am onto the next,” Andreescu said afterwards.
After holding her opening service game the Canadian had two chances to break and earned the first break of serve of the match by firing a return forehand winner down the line to seal it. It stayed on serve until 5-3 when the number one seed started to push back and earned the break back but Andreescu broke right back the following game to seal the first set.
The Canadian continued to dominate early in the second set. Riding the wave of momentum, she broke again early to take a 2-0 lead and turned that break into a double break with a powerful backhand winner to make it 4-0.
Kasatkina once again managed to get a break back but was broken once again the following game and the 2019 US Open champion served out the match.
In her post game interview Andreescu was asked how she continues to improve from match to match.
“That is always the goal is to learn from each match and just keep improving as much as I can,” she replied.
Andreescu also mentioned how thrilled she is to be playing in her first semifinal of the year.
“It’s amazing, I have been through some rough times and just perservering through all of it really makes all of these moments worth it,” She said.
Andreescu will now face Simona Halep who also had no issues dispatching the American Amanda Anisimova in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. The Romainian currently leads their head to head 1-0.
