The Canadian is through to another WTA quarterfinal after beating the British qualifier.
Bianca Andreescu is through to the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open after beating Katie Swan in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes finishing with three aces and 35 winners.
This is the first time the Toronto native had reached the final eight at a grass court event in her career.
“The match was not easy, she was serving very well and I was a bit shaky in the first set and a half with my return but I got it at the end and I am very happy.”
The Brit got off to a nervous start in the opening game of the match and the Canadian pounced getting the early break at the third time of asking to take an early 1-0 lead but was broken back the very next game.
Andreescu saved a breakpoint to hold serve at 2-2 and at 3-3 got the crucial break and was able to consolidate it before serving out the first set.
Swan saved two breakpoints once again in the first game of the second set and the set stayed on serve once again until 3-3 when the Canadian secured the break with a stunning return forehand winner.
That break was enough for the Toronto native to serve out the match and book her spot in the quarterfinals and after the match was asked how much she is having being back on tour.
“I am really doing my best at enjoying the process and it’s not always easy but I know it’s worth it because I have big dreams and I am super happy.”
Andreescu will face the number one seed on Thursday as she faces Daria Kasatkina and the pair have only met once with the Canadian beating her back in 2019 at the Rogers Cup.
