Former French Open semi-finalist Diego Schwartzman survived a major scare to book his place in the third round.

At two sets down to 25-year-old Spaniard Jaume Munar it looked like Schwartzman would be crashing out.

But the Argentine suddenly came to life in the third set to produce the vintage clay-court tennis we know he’s capable of.

With a flurry of breaks and strong serving, Schwartzman stormed back to win 2-6, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

His opponent next is Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov, who overcame the returning Borna Coric in straight sets 6-0, 6-4, 6-3, to set up a blockbuster top-20 clash in the third round.

American Sebastian Korda overcame a stern test in Frenchman Richard Gasquet, to squeeze through in three tight sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 6-3.

Next up is the man he beat in Monte Carlo, Carlos Alcaraz.

That was one of only three loses this season for the young Spanish star.

The 19-year-old saved match points to beat an inspired Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-1, 6-7 (7-9), 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

But Italy’s Fabio Fognini’s poor season continued against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp as he surrendered a 5-1 second set lead and failed to convert set points, eventually retiring after suffering a calf injury.

American Taylor Fritz was left shell shocked by little known Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles, going down 3-6 6-2 6-2 6-3.

Rafa Nadal awaits the Dutchman after destroying Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 for his 300th Grand Slam victory.

Whilst showing no signs of the injury issues which have plagued him of late.

This will be of encouragement to his fans.

Meanwhile, Britain’s Cameron Norrie kept his title hopes alive as he beat Australian world number 160 Jason Kubler 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.

He will face Karen Khachanov next.
