Jannik Sinner battles past Borna Coric in Monte-Carlo

Jannik Sinner battled past Borna Coric 6-3 2-6 6-3 after 2 hours and 28 minutes at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters in a clash between two players, who were formerly coached by Riccardo Piatti.

Sinner hit 24 winners compared to Coric, who maded 20 winners to 55 unforced errors. The Italian player faced two break points in the first and six games before earning his first break in the seventh game. Sinner closed out the first set with a double break in the ninth game. 

The second set went on serve in the first four games. Coric converted his fourth break point in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. Sinner suffered from a problem on his addominal muscle and took a medical time-out late in the second set. Coric sealed the seond set 6-2 with a double break in the second game. 

Sinner survived the injury scare and saved a break point with a forehand winner in the first game of the third set and never looked back. The 20-year-old Italian star won the next eleven points to take a 3-0 lead with a break in the second game. 

Sinner held his next service games to close out the third set 6-3. 

Sinner saved seven of the nine break points he faced and won 42% of his first-serve return points. 

“I feel well. I am not injured. I know Coric very well, as he trained in Piatti Accademy in the past. During the tournaments we trained together. I am now training well with my current coach Simone Vagnozzi”, said Sinner.
