Nick Kyrgios cruised past Andrey Rublev 6-3 6-0 to advance to the third round at the Miami Open.
Kyrgios set up an entertaining match against Fabio Fognini. The Australian player has improved his win-loss record to 6-2. He was defeated just twice by Danil Medvedev in the second round of the Australian Open and Rafael Nadal in the quarter final at Indian Wells. The Miami Open is still just his third tournament since taking time off due to a knee injury last September.
Rublev broke in the third game of the first set, but Kyrgios broke straight back. The Aussie star won four of the next five games to win the first set 6-3. Kyrgios continued his momentum by breaking serve in the opening game and saved a break point to take a 2-0 lead.
Kyrgios held serve before breaking once more earning the chance to serve for the match. He hit an underarm tweener serve on match point, but Rublev managed to get to deuce. Kyrgios sealed a 6-3 6-0 win after 51 minutes on his fourth match point.
“He came out hot at the start and that’s tennis. A couple of points could swing a momentum change like that and once that double break, I started seeing the return really well”, said Kyrgios.
