Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury saved two match points to beat Pierre Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-7 (7-9) 6-0 13-11. Ram and Salisbury went to the top of the Red Group, although this win does not guarantee them a spot in the semifinal.
Herbert and Mahut could have booked their semifinal spot with a win, but they were not able two match points at 9-8 and 10-9 in the match tie-break. They will have a chance to qualify for the semifinals on Friday, when they Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares.
Herbert and Mahut earned four break points on Ram’s serve in the opening service game. Ram and Salisbury fended off a fifth break point in the sixth game and earned two set points on their serve in the tie-break. Herbert and Mahut won the final three points to win the tie-break 9-7.
Ram and Salisbury broke three times to take a bagel win in the second set. The American and British team took a 7-4 lead in the Match tie-break. Ram saved a match point at 9-10 with a return winner, but Salisbury made a double fault on their own match point at 11-10. Salisbury hit a big serve to earn a second match point. Ram hit another return to seal the Match tie-break 13-11.
