Andy Murray has posted a video on social media asking the public to help him track down his stolen wedding ring, which was attached to a pair of tennis shoes.
The three-time Grand Slam champion explained that during practice he usually ties his ring to the shoes as he is unable to train whilst wearing it. It is something the Brit has done on many occasions but this time in Indian Wells things didn’t go as planned.
Speaking about the incident, Murray explains that he returned to his car after eating dinner but it smelt due to his ‘pretty damp and sweaty’ shoes caused by playing in the Californian heat. Reluctant to keep them in his car or move them to his hotel room, he opted instead to leave them under his car to air overnight.
“Last night after dinner I got back in the car to go back to the hotel and the car didn’t smell great,” Murray explained on Instagram. “Basically I’d left my tennis shoes in there. It’s been 39 degrees so my tennis shoes are pretty damp, sweaty.”
“So I decided when I got back to the hotel that the shoes needed some air, I needed to dry them out a little bit. “I have no balcony in my room and I didn’t want to leave them in my room as it would stink the room out. “So I thought I’m going to leave the shoes underneath the car, to get some air to them and dry them out overnight.”
The next morning Murray returned to his car to find somebody had taken his shoes. However, that wasn’t the worst bit. Later in the day during another practice session, the 34-year-old was asked by his physio where his wedding ring is? Prompting him to realise that it is still attached to the stolen shoes.
“As I was preparing for my practice, my physio said to me, ‘Where’s your wedding ring?’ he recounted.
“And I thought ‘oh no’. I basically tie my wedding ring to my tennis shoes while I’m playing because I can’t play with it on my hand.Murray has tied his ring to his laces for years.
“So, yeah, my wedding ring’s been stolen as well. Needless to say, I’m in the bad books at home, so I want to try to find it.”
Murray has asked his followers to share the video in hope that he can find some information and track down the missing ring.
“If we can try and get them back and get to the bottom of it, it would be much appreciated.” He concluded.
Murray has received a wildcard into this week’s BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. A former finalist back in 2009, he will take on Adrian Mannarino in the first round. So far this season he has achieved a win-loss record of 7-7 on the ATP Tour.
