Nineteen-year-old Camila Osorio from Colombia will face US 21-year-old Ann Li in the final of the Tenerife Ladies Open.
Osorio beat this year’s Montreal Canadian Open champion Camila Giorgi 6-4 7-5 after 94 minutes to reach her second WTA Tour final. Osorio came back from a break down in both sets.
Osorio fended off four break points in the first game, but Giorgi earned an early break in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. The Italian top player wasted a 40-0 lead at 4-3 and Osorio broke back to draw level to 4-4. Osorio won the final four games from 2-4 to close out the first set 6-4.
Osorio saved two break points to hold serve for 4-3. Giorgi hit a backhand to break serve for 5-4. Osorio pulled back on serve to draw level to 5-5, as Giorgi was not able to serve out the set. The Colombian player earned a break in the 12th game to win the second set.
“The match was really tough, so intense. I have never run that much before in my life. I am super happy. At the beginning she was serving so good, everything was first serve, and it was tough for me to return, but somehow I found the rhythm, and I started doing better and better”, said Osorio.
Ann Li cruised past Alizé Cornet 6-2 6-1. Li hit an overhead winner to break Cornet at love for 3-1 and fended off two break points in the fifth game to open up a 4-1 lead. The US player hit an overhead winner to break Cornet at 5-2. She broke Cornet in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Cornet saved seven break points at 4-1, but Li converted her eighth break point.
“Cornet and I played played before, and they have always been battles. I knew I had to be aggressive from the start to the finish. She always gets to a lot of balls, so it’s about being patient as well. That made the difference today”, said Li.
