Alexander Zverev has credited his Olympic victory for his recent form in the second half of the season as he reaches a fifth final of the season in Vienna.
The German is into another final in 2021 after a dominant display saw him cruise past Carlos Alcaraz 6-3 6-3.
Despite Alcaraz’s efforts of beating Andy Murray and Matteo Berrettini, the Spaniard couldn’t sustain his high level as Zverev was dominant throughout the course of the match.
In particular, Zverev’s serve was the main factor today as he served eight aces and only faced one break point in the match as he cruised into the Vienna final.
After the match Zverev admitted he was struggling before the match and talked about how the Olympics has been a big factor in his confident second half of the season, “I finally found my rhythm from the baseline because I was really struggling,” he told atptour.com.
“I didn’t feel the ball well and I spent some time on the court after the match yesterday and warmed up for an hour and a half before the match today and I finally got it.
“I am happy with how things are going and hopefully I can get another win tomorrow. The Olympics was the key factor. The match against Novak [Djokovic] made me believe that I can win any tournament I can play.”
Zverev’s belief has been key as since that Olympic title won Cincinnati and reached the US Open semi-finals, only losing to Djokovic in a five set thriller.
As well as winning the Olympics and Cincinnati, Zverev has also won titles in Acapulco and Madrid.
Now the German will look to add Vienna to his collection when he takes on Jannik Sinner or Frances Tiafoe in the final.
Zverev leads the head-to-head against Tiafoe 5-1 while he is 2-1 up on Jannik Sinner with his most recent victory coming at the US Open.
