Paula Badosa has announced her split with coach Javier Marti after 11 months together.
The Spaniard has achieved the best results of her career under Marti having reached the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros, winning her first WTA title in Belgrade and reaching the semi-finals at her home tournament in Madrid.
However in a sudden turn of events Badosa has now announced that her coaching relationship with Marti has ended ahead of the US Open.
In a statement Badosa was grateful for the work Marti has done over the last 11 months, “Javi has helped me at a very important time in my career,” Badosa was quoted as saying by Cope.es.
“He has been able to give me the calm that is necessary to find his way again and that is something for which I will always be grateful. I am very grateful for all the work we have done together.
“My goal now is to maintain the competitive order I’ve achieved in these last few months. I’m going to try to compete at the highest level until the end of the season, showing myself that I can demand 100% in every week of competition.
“It is a clear step forward that I have taken in this time and that I want to be able to consolidate in the future.”
After losing in the second round in Montreal to Rebecca Marino, Badosa will now head to Cincinnati and the US Open as she looks to finish a good 2021 season strongly.
