The Canadian beat the home favourite in straight sets on Center Court on Friday night.
Denis Shapovalov is into the round of 16 after beating the Brit and crowd favourite Andy Murray in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours and 34 minutes hitting 44 winner and serving 13 aces in the win.
“It was incredible, every day I worked hard in practice so that one day I could play on Center Court and to play against a legend like Andy (Murray) today and to play a match like this and he is a truly an inspiration to many people including me”.
The first two games of the match went on serve and it was the number 10 seed with the first chance of the match to break and with his trademark one handed backhand he broke to take a 2-1 lead.
The Toronto native had three more chances to break at 3-1 to go up a double break and it was third time lucky as he broke again to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
At 5-2 Murray started to fight his way back into the match after a very slow start and earned his first breakpoint of the match and broke the Canadian to love to get one of the breaks back.
At 5-4 with the world number 12 serving for the first set the Scott had three chances to break to go back on serve but the 22 year old held his ground and served out the first set.
The second set followed a similar pattern with Shapovalov earning a breakpoint in the first game of the set and once again a poor service game and a double fault by Murray gave the Canadian the early break.
After holding serve and consolidating the break the number 10 seed had a chance to go up a double break and broke once more to take a 3-0 lead and at 4-1 the Nassau, Bahamas resident saved five breakpoints before taking the second set.
As the second set ended we had reached 9:00pm local time and there was a 15-20 minute break to close the roof followed by a short four minute warm up before the third set started.
It was much of the same for the Canadian as he had three more breakpoints and broke to take a 1-0 lead and went up a double break on Murray breaking again with powerful forehand winner.
Shapovalov had a chance to go up 5-0 but Murray finally saved two breakpoints and held serve before the Canadian would serve out the match and book a date with the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut on manic Monday.
After the match in his on court interview he spoke about the experience he had playing his first ever match on Center Court.
“I’m just trying to soak in everything and it’s truly amazing to be out on this court and to play a match like today I don’t think I could have played any better”.
This will be a first ever meeting on Monday for the Canadian and the Spaniard.
