Stefanos Tsitsipas has become the first Greek tennis player to reach a grand slam final after a 6-3 6-3 4-6 4-6 6-3 win over Alexander Zverev.
Tsitsipas become the youngest player since Andy Murray to reach a grand slam final after avoiding a comeback by Zverev to reach the final at Roland Garros.
The world number five will play the winner of the 58th meeting between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal on Sunday.
It was a dominant performance in the first set from Tsitsipas who broke early to gain a 3-0 advantage.
Moving into the court, hitting winners early and forcing errors from Zverev deep behind the baseline was the key as he cruised through his service games.
No threat was offered by the former US Open finalist who managed to hold serve comfortably after the first few games.
After a tight service game, Tsitsipas held serve to seal the opening set in 38 minutes.
The second set was tighter with the 5th seed dipping in form to start the set with Zverev gaining his confidence in the early goings of the set.
A 3-0 lead was established by the German as he started to produce more aggressive patterns of play.
However Tsitsipas mixed up the angles of his shot-making and stormed back to win six games in a row to take a two set to love lead.
But it seemed like the first two sets were too routine for the Greek who suddenly dropped his intensity levels and slowly made less returns.
This allowed Zverev to build up his confidence and vary the pace of the balls to create shorter balls in return for winner.
Despite some controversy towards the end of the set a break in the third game was enough for the German to take the third set.
Again in the fourth set, a solitary break was enough for Zverev who broke in the first game and served immaculately well to level the match up at two sets all.
An important hold at the start of the fifth was the key to the match for Tsitsipas who saved three break points to hold.
This was a massive momentum swing as Tsitsipas converted his first break point of the set in the fourth game to seal a 3-1 lead.
The German looked out of ideas and confidence as he was clinging on by a thread.
After failing to convert four match points in the previous game, Tsitsipas converted match point number five on his own serve to claim a historic victory.
Now becoming the first Greek to reach a grand slam final, Tsitsipas will now meet Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal in Sunday’s final.
