Novak Djokovic eased past Kevin Anderson 6-3 6-3 6-3 to reach the third round of Wimbledon.
The world number one was in fine form as he broke on four occasions to seal a place in the last 32.
Next for the defending champion will be the winner of the match between Denis Kudla and Andreas Seppi.
Despite the result, it was a bright start by the South African in what was a rematch from the 2018 final.
Anderson managing to serve well and find easy spaces on the court to fire winners with the Serb not being as effective from defensive positions.
A half-chance to break was created by Anderson but Djokovic’s clutch patterns of play ensured he wasn’t to take those chances.
As the Serb continued to slip on the court, he also elevated his level to supreme heights and a few deep returns sealed a break to love for a 5-3 lead.
With relative ease Djokovic served out the opening set to take a one set lead.
From then on it was always a challenge for Anderson as Djokovic got the ball to his feet in difficult positions on the court.
The Serb produced a serving and returning masterclass and a masterful lob secured one of two breaks for a 4-3 lead.
Another break would follow as the defending champion secured four games in a row and a two set to love lead.
There were more competitive rallies and more successful shot-making from Anderson in the third set as he remained unfazed of taking on Djokovic from the back of the court.
However once again when it really mattered Djokovic struck and a wonderful passing shot was followed by a scream to his box and a fourth break of the match.
One more clean service game completed a simple passage into the last 32 of Wimbledon.
After the match Djokovic admitted it was a flawless performance, “Kevin is a terrific player, very dangerous on grass courts, fast courts. Obviously a straight-set victory today but still only one break each set was enough, I held my serve really comfortably,” Djokovic said in his on-court interview.
“That was one of the tactical goals – try to make the least unforced errors as possible. I knew Kevin was going to serve big and I wasn’t not going to have too many chances to break his serve. I’ve done much better that I thought I would do.
“I believed in myself but it was almost flawless performance today. I’m just super happy to see all of you on the court. Also I seem to have a really nice connection with the grass. I don’t recall falling this much in the first two rounds of Wimbledon.”
Next for Djokovic will be Andreas Seppi or Denis Kudla on Friday.
