Frances Tiafoe gained the biggest win of his career as he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4 6-4 6-3.
Tiafoe produced great serving numbers as he outpowered Tsitsipas in straight sets.
The Greek couldn’t repeat his performance at Roland Garros as he was well and truly beaten.
Tiafoe plays Roberto Carballes Baena or Vasek Pospisil next.
The American made a quick start as he neutralised Tsitsipas’ serve and used his big forehand to dictate play from the start.
A break in the first game gave him confidence as his big serve was firing early.
Meanwhile Tsitsipas lacked any clinical aggression and exposed his lack of deep returns when being rushed.
Tiafoe continued to mix up his serves and finish off points nice and early as the Greek couldn’t settle into his rhythm.
First set was secured in 38 minutes as Tiafoe had momentum on his side as he felt today was going to be his day.
In the second set Tsitsipas managed to serve more effectively and gain control of his service games.
But the American was still maintaining aggressive groundstrokes and patterns of play on his own service games.
Tiafoe managed to be patient on return and found his rewards in the ninth game as he sealed a crucial break for a 5-4 lead.
After saving three break points, the American took his first set point and manged to get the crowd on his side as he took a two sets to love lead.
The American now had something to lose and after breaking early in the third, nerves started to enter the American’s game.
However Tsitsipas couldn’t capitalise on the opportunities that were presented to him as too many errors cost him.
In the end it was the American’s day as another break of serve sealed one of the biggest wins of his career.
For Tsitsipas it was not his day as he didn’t produce his best tennis in the key moments to trouble the impressive serving.
However Tiafoe progresses with one of his best wins of his career and will now face Roberto Carballes Baena or Vasek Pospisil next.
