The Greek world number five had no issues getting by his Canadian opponent to reach another semi final.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is into the semi finals of the Banc Open Sabadell after beating the world number 20 Felix Auger Aliassime in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in less than 90 minutes hitting 11 winners in the process while the Canadian hit 18 unforced errors.
“I’ve grown as a player and developed and that is the reason I think why it has paid off for me so far, now I consider myself a more complete player and also that’s the goal when you play in these big stages, you have to be physical, you need to have the right body to play and be in form in difficult conditions.”
It was actually the Canadian who got off to a better start holding serve and putting pressure right away on the Greek’s opening service game earning three breakpoints. But the world number five did a good job saving them, eventually holding serve.
At 2-2 it seemed the tables had turned and now it was the Greek putting pressure on the Canadian and he earned his first three breakpoints of the match and broke at love to take a 4-2 lead.
That break was enough for him to serve out the first set and take a one set lead.
The first three games of the second set went with serve and at 2-1 the world number five set up three more breakpoints with a stunning down the line winner. He would end up breaking and once again that break was enough for him to serve out the match.
He will next face Jannik Sinner who earlier in the day beat the number three seed Andrey Rublev 6-2, 7-6 (6). After his match in his post-match press conference, he gave his thoughts to Ubitennis about his next match against the young Italian.
“He has been playing well on clay and other surfaces too, he’s someone that has been growing a lot on tour, on the circuit and he had great wins recently so I am going to try and approach it with the same mindset that I always do.”
