Stefanos Tsitsipas moved into the first final of his career at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters with a 6-2 6-1 win over Daniel Evans.
Tsitsipas has dropped just 22 games in four tournament wins to reach his third Masters 1000 final.
The 22-year-old Greek star has not dropped a set against Aslan Karatsev, Cristian Garin and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina en route to his third Masters 1000 final. He got through to his second final of the year after finishing runner-up to Alexander Zverev in Acapulco. He has reached the quarter finals or better at six consecutive tournaments.
Evans saved two break points to hold serve at deuce in the second game, but Tsitsipas earned the first break of the match at deuce with a backhand volley to take a 3-1 lead. Evans broke straight back in the fifth game for 2-3. Tsitsipas regained the break for 4-2 after Evans missed a forehand and consolidated it at 15. He broke serve at love to claim the first set 6-2 after 38 minutes, as Evans made his second double break.
Tsitsipas hit a backhand volley to break serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. The 2019 ATP Finals champion earned another break point in the sixth game with a forehand pass and earned his fifth break in eight service games before serving out the win at love.
Tsitsipas has extended his head-to-head record against Evans to 3-0. Tsitsipas reached his 14th tour-level final.
“I am pleased with the performance. I found ways to play at my best. It was really difficult to maintain my level of consistency and I am really happy I managed to deal with all the different moments during the match. I had a lot of opportunities to hit the forehand, and think how I wanted to construct the point”, said Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas will face either Andrey Rublev or Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final. The Athens native is tied at 3-3 in his six head-to-head series against Rublev and has never faced Ruud on the ATP Tour. Evans beat Novak Djokovic and 2017 Monte-Carlo semifinalist David Goffin. He also reached the semifinal in the doubles tournament alongside with his partner Neal Skupski after a 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 10-4 win over Raveen Klaasen and Ben McLachlan.
