Lorenzo Musetti received a wild-card to play in the main-draw at next week’s Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, which will be held from 10 to 18 April at the Country Club.
Musetti came through the qualifying round to reach his first ATP 500 semifinal in Acapulco, where he scored his first top 10 win against Diego Schwartzman before beating Frances Tiafoe and Grigor Dimitrov to break into the top 100 for the first time in his career.
The 19-year-old Italian player reached the third round at the Miami Masters 1000 tournament. Earlier this week beat Dennis Novak 6-0 6-1 in the first round at the Sardegna Open ATP 250 tournament in Cagliari.
Musetti was exprected to start from the qualifying round, but organizers decided to grant him a wild-card to start from the main draw. Musetti will make the third appearance in his career in a Masters 1000 tournament. Last year he beat Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka to advance to the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome as qualifier. He became the first player born in 2002 to earn an ATP Tour win and the youngest man to reach Rome third round since Fabrice Santoro in 1991. He became the youngest semifinalist of the season at the Sardinia Open as 18-year-old wild-card and broke into the top 200 on 21st September. He achieved his career-high of number 123 on 19 October 2020 and beat four top-100 players en route to winning his first ATP Challenger Tour in Forlì.
