The Polish world number 37 got his revenge from his loss against the Canadian in Dubai a few weeks back.
Hubert Hurkacz is into the round of 16 at the Miami Open after getting some revenge on a loss he suffered to Denis Shapovalov at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships beating him in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 hitting nine winners while his Canadian opponent hit 35 unforced errors.
After both players held their opening service game it was the world number 11 who had the first chance to break but he was snubbed by the big serve of the Pole. He had another chance at 3-3 but was denied once again and it happened again the very next game.
At 4-3 the world number 37 earned his first breakpoint of the match and he converted to take a 5-3 lead and served out the set to take the first set 6-3. Neither player budged on serve in the second set and it would go into a tiebreaker.
Once again it was super tight and at 4-4 the Pole went for it and won a point on the Canadian serve as his volley would sail wide and he would serve out the tiebreaker to win it 6-4 winning the set 7-6 and with it the match.
Hurkacz will now face Milos Raonic in the last 16 after the Canadian beat Ugo Humbert 6-4 7-5.
Raonic won 77% of his first service points as he broke on two occasions to make it to the fourth round.
The two players have never met before heading into Tuesday’s showdown.
