Christian Garin beats Facundo Bagnis in Santiago to clinch his fifth career ATP Tour title

Santiago native Christian Garin beat Argentine Facundo Bagnis 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 in the final of the Chile Dove Men+ Care Open in Santiago de Chile to clinch the fifth ATP Tour title of his career. 

Garin dropped just one set in the whole tournament. He became the first Chilean player to win a home tournament since Fernando Gonzales at Vina del Mar in 2009. 

Garin claimed the first set 6-4 with a break in the seventh game at deuce. Garin went up an early break in the third game of the second set, but Bagnis broke straight back in the fourth game to draw level to 2-2. Bagnis saved three break points in the fifth game to hold serve at deuce. Both players went on serve until the tie-break. Bagnis earned a double mini-break to race out to a 5-1 lead. Garin pulled back one break back but Bagnis claimed the tie-break 7-3 with his third mini-break. 

Garin earned the first break of the third set in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead, but Bagnis broke straight back in the seventh game. Garin had to face two break points at 5-5, before earning the decisive break in the 12th game to win the third set 7-5 claiming his first ATP title on home soil. Garin has improved his record in ATP Tour finals to 5-1. He won all his five titles on clay (Houston and Munich in 2019, Rio de Janeiro and Cordoba in 2020 and Santiago in 2021).
